REFLECTION TASK 3 (Edited version)

I can doubtlessly say that man of the year should be J.R.R. Tolkien. Although he is not alive, he still deserves this honor. When I consider the conditions to determine the man of the year, I think that that man should be creative, peaceful, and also he should still have impact on us. As a result, Tolkien was the best candidate.  First of all, his books and stories are great. He created very big, magical and fantastic world to his readers. Thanks to his masterpiece The Lord of the Rings and Hobbit, we have priceless characters and earth which is called Middle Earth. Secondly, there are millions of fans over the world. Many people read his books many times without any boredom. After death, only the great men's influence can be maintained and Tolkien has been proving this to the whole world for years. On the other hand, he is very good at language. He created a new language which is called Elvish, and I can doubtlessly  say that I will learn it. He formed a huge background for his books. This shows us that he really loved his job.

If we look at his books, we can see that there is always a conflict between good and bad. That is the most important characteristics of his works. His works are very useful for child development. They include perfect examples of the good and bad. To conclude, humanity owes him so much and making him man of the year is the best way to show our respect to Tolkien.

  1. Hello again, Halilcan. It was a pleasure to read your reflection and to get to know Mr. Tolkien. Considering what you told expressively in your reflection, I think your suggestion for the man of the year is appropriate. The content of your reflection seems to be well-organized; however, there is a lack in terms of coherence. Although you used the transition words in a correct fashion, you missed writing clear thesis statements. For example, before listing the reasons for your nominating Mr. Tolkien for the man of the year, you should have added a sentence which signaled a reasoning would follow. In terms of grammar, your reflection needs revising in some places. In the first sentence, instead of “is” , “should” could be used to make a suggestion and to avoid abruptness. In the second sentence, there should be a tense agreement between the two clauses. You should have used the indefinite article before “very big, magical and fantastic world”, and “for” instead “to”. In sentence 8, you seem to have forgotten the auxiliary verb “be”. In sentence 9, both “so”s are redundant. You should revise sentence 10 due to the fact that the meaning of this sentence is unclear. In the first sentence of the second paragraph, you should have used “see” instead of “show” to correct the meaning. In the second sentence of the same paragraph, the word “characteristic” seems not to need pluralization. In sentence 4, the definite article is unnecessary. In terms of spelling and punctuation, you have only one mistake. Considering the fact that the title of a novel is italicized or underlined, you should have either italicized or underlined the novels that you gave as an example. Overall, it is a fairly well-written paragraph.
    Would you like to learn Elvish?

  3. Hello Halilcan;
    I have just read your reflection and I think you explained your candidate for the person of the year very well. Firstly you explained what are the criterions for the person of the year for you and then you introduced your candidate with reasons why you chose him according to your criterions. When I read your explanation why Tolkien deserves to be the person of the year, I thought that you did really good choice. I am very happy about the fact that I learned qualities of Tolkien's books with your reflection.I realized a grammatical mistake which is not actually so important. In the sentence begining with secondly you said "there millions". You must have forgotten to add "are" to this sentence.Finally, I have a question for you. What is your favourite book by Tolkien?
    Thank you for your good reflection. :)

  4. Hey breda, wagwan? :) I am just kidding, I read your reflection twice and I could not find a notable mistake. Therefore I am writing this comment as a complement. I really loved your work because you introduced Tolkien to the reader in a great way. There is a tiny organization disorder but I think it could be ignored. Your choice for the man of the year is a good decision. Your writing skills are great. I have not got bored when I read your reflection. Keep writing.
